Volunteers

The Hospital Volunteers' group form a valuable link for the Friends and, because the Volunteers share the same fundamental objective, have a natural affinity with them.

Volunteers

In addition to their caring role of guiding often apprehensive patients to their appointment clinics and generally making them feel at home, the Volunteers are minded to raise funds to support the Friends' objective of supplementing the resources of the Hospital to aid in the provision of amenities for patients and staff.

In the main they do this by soliciting Books, DVDs and CDs, and displaying them in the Hospital Reception area selling them for 50p each. Last year they raised over 3,000 for the Friends in this way, and this fund raising has contributed to the purchase of a number of significant pieces of equipment over recent years.

The Volunteers group is organised by a co-ordinator who is appointed by invitation of the Matron & Site Manager, and it is normal for the co-ordinator to have a seat on the committee of the Friends.

A rota is agreed and issued for attendance at the Hospital for 'Meet & Greet' duties. A duty dress code applies and training is given in Health & Safety (wheelchair use etc.), Fire Safety, Infection Control and Evacuation procedures.

The Group currently numbers eighteen which just covers the Hospital week with duty spells each morning and afternoon of 2 to 2.5 hours duration, although there is little margin for cover if volunteers are not available for their duty and more volunteers are being sought.

Interest in the Volunteers comes largely from mature ladies who have retired from often responsible roles in both the private and public sectors and wish to contribute to the caring of people less fortunate than themselves.

To become a volunteer please contact Mrs. Trish Mason either through the hospital reception area or Telephone 01780 752257. We are a happy team and we have the hospital interests at heart.
